THE WAY WE WORK

Every project is different and we offer a bespoke design package for every garden. Let’s discuss your requirements and tailor our services to exactly what you need.

If you commission us for a full garden design, then all of the below stages will apply to our work process.

  1. INITIAL CONSULTATION

After you get in touch and tell us bit more about your garden project (budget, size, timeframe, location) by email or phone call, we will arrange a site visit and discuss your preferences, specific requirements and lifestyle. We will then issue a brief in which we outline the specifications for your project and our fees.

STAGES

2. SITE SURVEY

Conducting a thorough site analysis is crucial. This involves assessing the existing landscape, including soil conditions, sunlight exposure, elevation, site dimensions, utilities and existing vegetation. Understanding the site's unique characteristics is essential for a successful design.

We may collaborate with professional landscape surveyors especially if the site is large and/or challenging.

3. CONCEPT PLANS

Based on the information gathered, we create a conceptual plan. This may include rough sketches, mood boards, and a 2D initial plan to convey the overall design vision, including layout, theme, and key elements. We are not getting into finer details at this stage.

4. MASTERPLAN/ DETAILED DESIGN

Once the concept is approved, we refine the details. We create more detailed drawings or digital renderings, specifying layout, materials, hardscape features like paths, patios, and structures, and give a general idea of the planting palette which we suggest.

A 2D design plan is produced. 3D visuals can also be added to give a real-life representation to our proposed designs.

5. CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS

Once we agree on the masterplan, we can develop technical drawings for hardscape features and structures to guide the landscapers and other contractors who will bring the design to life. These include setting-out plans, cross-section drawings, specifications etc.

6. THE TENDERING PROCESS AND SITE MONITORING

We work collaboratively with a wide range of trusted contractors to execute our designs and can recommend local landscapers and other experts to do the work. If you wish, we can put together a tender package to then send to contractors for pricing. Once construction begins, you have the option for us to visit the site at the frequency you choose, so that we keep an eye on the progress, address any changes, and make sure everything aligns with the original plans.

7. PLANTING PLAN

We first prepare a plant mood board to pre-select with you the style of planting that you’d like to go forward with. Factors such as color, texture, seasonal interest, and maintenance requirements are taken into account to create a harmonious and sustainable garden. We then prepare a detailed plan identifying the plant types, sizes, spacing etc. which we can then send on to nurseries for costing. We can personally select and hand-tagged the plants at the nurseries, and layout the plants on site as per the planting plan.
